Cross Overs
Posted On 02/22/08 @ 09:42 AM by baz8

I spent last weekend with my wife looking at new vehicles.  My wife was a 2-generation "mommy-van" owner.  Having two kids involved with sports (hockey, baseball, LAX, football, etc.) the van was awesome.  But alas as the kids get older we don't necessarily need the van anymore.

Quick plug.....we had two Ford Windstars and they were absolutely the best vehicles I have ever owned!!!

So....back to the new car search.  We decided to go out and look at "cross-over" vehicles.  Kind of an "in-between" car from a van and sedan.  We looked at the Acura RDX, Honda CRV, Nissan Murano, Toyota Rav4, and Ford Edge.

Acura RDX:  I own a TL and it is an awesome vehicle.  The RDX is cool, nicely featured, Turbo 4 (???), but pricey.  Still nice

Honda CRV:  Don't even waste your time.  Cheap interior, cramped cabin, not much room, not very comfortable.  Didn't even drive it.

Nissan Murano:  Interesting car.  The cabin is pretty weird.  The dash seems about a mile away from you.  The windshield is even stranger.  It drove "very heavy" although a nice drive.  It was nicely featured with a back up camera, ect. but very pricey.

Toyota Rav4:  Great Toyota vehicle - stay away from the 4 cylinder - the 6 was very peppy and drove very nicely.  It is a bit small and to get a nicely featured version it was pretty pricey.

Ford Edge:  KaChing!  This is an aweseome vehicle.  Great drive (quietest we test drove), very peppy 267 HP, great features, excellent room, very comfortable.  Overall - Ford got this one right!  It was the best of the lot.

We purchased the Edge and even my 16 year son is trippin' on it!!!

Go Ford!!!

Hey Baz,

Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone!  Great insights!  My daughter and son in law got an Edge and they also love it. Roomy, quiet, stable, peppy as you said and safe.  Good choice.
