Let's see - I was one of the original five at WheelsTV, breaking away a number of years ago for a raft of reasons, but mostly to start my own production company. Being my own boss has been the single best decision in my life. I live in über-liberal San Francisco now, commute by bike every day of the year, and have made many changes in my life to lessen my impact on our planet - which has drawn the ire of a few folks here & there... you know who you are, Lehel! ;-)

Cycling, Running, Hiking, Golf, Playin' Guitar, cooking and basically anything outdoors, regardless of the weather.

Anything not on the radio.

\'72 Porsche 914

flat4 has 3 friend(s)

I've had a handful of vintage cars from Germany - including three 1973 VW Things, a '68 VW Squareback, Deserter Dune Buggy, Porsche 914, plus a few contemporary VeeDubs (Golf & New Beetle). Current stable is "Clem" the orange VW Thing (all original body!), which I've built to sip fuel and pass emissions, and the Saturn Yellow '72 Porsche 914, also built for fuel economy and sporting performance (it's all about the HP to weight ratio, my friends). My favorite vehicles though are my two bicycles, which I ride every. single. day. (even carry my golf clubs on my back on the weekends)

Vintage European cars, specifically VW & Porsche (aircooled only). Also, anything funky, deadly, small & efficient.

Pacific Coast Highway, Route 5 in the Northeast Kingdom of VT, D6098/1098 from Monaco to Saint-Tropez... Route 20 in Southeast Oregon... the list goes on.

I've taken a couple of X-Country trips in a couple of different VW Things. 1999 took me from Cape Cod to Vancouver, to San Diego, to Key West and back to Cape Cod, mostly on Blue Highways (back roads) over the course of 10 months. Total miles traveled, 17,000+. Recently moved from Boston to San Francisco, and we took two weeks and a rather circuitous route, stopping often to enjoy the local offerings. Plus, a handful of other roadgoing adventures all over the USA and Canada, and a few in Europe. All were done in sub-2.0 liter cars...

Porsche 550 Spyder, 930 Turbo, '62 VW Notchback, VW Buses, and anything scarcely larger than me and my passenger, and a binder of CD's.

Your ass looks fat in that SUV (my own design... want one?)

Littering, the pompous tossing of a cigarette out the window, non-use of directional, doors opening into the bike lane, and anyone.. and I mean ANYONE driving an SUV that isn't being used to haul, tow or transport. (this would include my own family, should any of them ever go the way of the SUV).

You two need timeouts. =P

You don't need a triple- double- or any doctorate...

My question though is now this:  why so confrontational?  I obviously struck a live nerve with you, and have decided to entertain your retaliatory remarks.  You're so damn easy to rile up!  I guess that's the best part of activism?

I hope you find some joy in your world this weekend.. I'm in no mood to reply, having just lost my dog this morning...

Not having the benefit of a triple doctorate in any engineering discipline, I will simply have to take your word for the mildly, over explained details clarifying why the THING is not a smog-spewing machine, even though, when one elucidates to that degree, one thinks of a Shakespearian quote,  along the lines of “The lady she doth protest too much, me thinks” but like I said I do believe you, I might just run it by some friends at MIT or Cal Tech, or even NASA if they’re not too busy.
